Sailing into DISASTER!....Alone at sea | #16 Sailing Footloose Solo
After 11 days of solitude, of which 6 days on a mooring in Cozumel, Mexico, it is time to set sail to Curaçao. Multiple things had to be fixed but being all by myself meant that this had to be improvised with the supplies and knowledge on-board!
Leaving Cozumel it was not a suprise when Footloose and I came across strong northerly cross-currents. This, combined with seasickness, the worn and partially torn sails and rough weather caused a bit of anxiety on-board.
This gut feeling shows to be for a good reason!
FYI; This video was captured in April 2020. Many countries had closed borders which gave another factor to take into consideration for cruisers all over the globe. This is still the ca...

Boats belong in the water and Footloose belongs to the sea. That is where we are both happy. After many difficulties with my boat in Guatemala we are ready to undergo the last but necessary difficult step. Footloose needs to be heeled over again to get her over the sandbank into the sea. It ended up being more difficult than the way into the Rio Dulce. Once at sea I wasn't totally sure if anyth...

How my ship with a draft of 8ft got towed over the 6ft deep sandbank. I had heard many good stories about the Rio dulce over the years, which had made me very curious. I knew however that my vessels draft would not make it possible to enter the river. Getting closer to Guatemala I started meeting people who had visited Rio Dulce. They told me that there are professionals who help large ships en...

    Country's worldwide have gone overboard with regulations and measures to in no avail trying to stop a virus. Willing and under full knowledge of put thousands of boaters in grate risk. Making boats do passages in bad weather windows, denied access to safe anchorage, the list is endless. I hope there will be a huge trial somewhere in 2025 to put everyone to justice for this huge crime against humanity. No I don't say there is no virus, all I say the useless efforts to control the virus has done more damage than the virus ever could have done. I love your videos keep them coming.

    Did you need help to get across the sand bar at Rio Dulce when it was time to leave?

    • @FOOTLOOSEsailing
      @FOOTLOOSEsailing 3 года назад

      Hi Rob, yes that was one of my big concerns. As the tide was only a few times a year enough to get out the Rio Dulce with at least as much water as I came in I needed help. There were curfews and lockdowns just around that time. I needed permission to navigate the Rio Dulce and the boats Who heeled and towed me needed permission as well. Getting out the Rio Dulce was way more difficult than going in. You will see more about it in my next video.

    Is Rio Dulce a good place to haul out? Is it inexpensive? Are the workers good, and not expensive to pay for work like paint? Are there many places to haul out there, or just one? It seems like not a good spot for a bigger boat because of the sand bar and the difficulty you had with the lift. Were there many sailboats in Rio Dulce, or just the ones in your video?
